Why I made the move to REMAX

Why Realtors Switch Brokerages (And Why I Just Did)

If you've been following along, you may have noticed something new next to my name: I'm now proud to call myself part of the REMAX family.

I get it — when your realtor changes brokerages, it can raise a few questions. Are they leaving because something went wrong? Does it mean anything for clients mid-transaction? Should you be worried?

So I wanted to take a minute and talk honestly about why realtors switch brokerages in the first place, and why this particular move made sense for me.

Why Realtors Change Brokerages

It's more common than people realize, and it's rarely dramatic. Some of the most typical reasons include:

Growth and support. As agents build their business, they often outgrow the resources of a smaller shop and look for a brokerage with more robust training, marketing tools, and admin support behind them.

Brand alignment. Sometimes an agent's personal brand and client base start to reach beyond their local market, and they want a brokerage name that clients recognize wherever they go.

Culture fit. Real estate is a relationship business, and that includes the relationship between an agent and their brokerage. Agents sometimes move to find a better cultural or philosophical fit for how they like to work.

Tools and technology. Bigger brokerages often bring stronger systems for lead generation, marketing, and transaction management — things that let an agent spend more time with clients and less time on paperwork.

None of these reasons mean an agent's past brokerage did anything wrong. It's simply part of how careers evolve in this industry — the same way any professional might move firms to find the setting where they can do their best work.

Why I Chose REMAX

For me, it came down to wanting the best of both worlds: staying exactly who I am — the same person who grew up in Woodstock, came back to Oxford County, and built a business on knowing this community inside and out — while gaining access to a brand with genuine global reach and recognition.

REMAX happens to have a tagline that captures it well: The Hometown Experts with a World of Experience®. That's exactly the balance I was looking for. My clients still get an agent who knows this market street by street. But now that's paired with the marketing power, training, and network of the world's most recognized real estate brand.

Personally, I also wanted to find a brokerage with really established processes and procedures. Tried and true practices with complete transparency. Whether you'd been there 1 week or 10 years, you had access to the same level playing field.

Beyond that, what I found was a calming, welcoming Broker of Record who made it an easy decision. "Hey - I've got this! I'll take care of it and get you set up." Plus, I was warmly welcomed to the team (along with 3 others who recently transferred) with a lovely little reception at the office where we had a chance to meet everyone and were given a welcome gift.

What This Means for You

If you're a current or future client, here's the short version: nothing about how I work with you changes. Same phone number, same hands-on approach, same commitment to serving you. What changes is the toolkit I bring to your sale or search — better marketing reach, more resources, and a brand that opens doors, sometimes literally, with buyers and agents outside our immediate area. In our region, we have REMAX a-b Realty offices - Woodstock, Ingersoll, Norwich, Stratford, and St. Mary's. That's significantly wider reach. More colleagues to reach out to, to help you find your perfect place. More potential buyers to share your listing with. More convenience, too.

If you're a fellow agent weighing a similar move, I'm always happy to talk honestly about the process — the good, the complicated, and everything in between.

Same me. More support. Bigger future!

I look forward to working with you!
